J&K Police arrests two drug peddlers in Poonch, Reasi

Jammu, Oct 6 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday arrested two drug peddlers with contraband of heroin and opium in two separate incidents in Poonch and Reasi districts.
A police spokesman here said that continuing sustained campaign against the menace of drug trafficking and substance abuse, acting on specific information and during checking, police team from Surankote recovered 8.52 grams of heroin and 16 grams of Ganja (opium) from the possession of Asif Iqbal, resident of Fazlabad, Surankote.
Police however, arrested the accused and registered an FIR into the case.
Meanwhile also arrested one person with 80 grams of ganja during a patrolling operation along the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi track in Katra town of Reasi district.
The police team at Banganga New Track observed a person coming from Tarakote towards Banganga carrying a black polythene bag and on noticing the police party, he attempted to flee but was promptly apprehended.
During search, the person was identified as Abhinav Rana of Mangted, Tehsil Khundian, District Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, presently at New Track Banganga, Katra, Tarakote Marg.
Search of the polythene bag led to the recovery of small transparent packets containing ganja.
Police have registered a case and took cognizance of the incident.
