BJP candidates file nominations for UP Rajya Sabha polls, all 10 seats likely to go uncontested

Lucknow, Oct 6 (UNI) Eight BJP candidates filed their nominations for the biennial Uttar Pradesh Rajya Sabha elections here on Tuesday in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and UP BJP President and union Minister Pankaj Chaudhary.
However, it is now certain that candidates for all 10 Rajya Sabha seats will be elected unopposed. Ram Gopal Yadav and Dhananjay Parimal Nathwani from the Samajwadi Party had already filed their nominations.
Now, a total of 11 candidates have filed nominations, but one Independent candidate filed without any proposer, whose papers will be rejected during scrutiny. Tuesday is the last day for filing nominations.
SP president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday wrote on X, "Now our focus is not on three, but on 403." Akhilesh had previously stated that if he reached the required number, he would field a third candidate.
In the BJP nominations on the last day, former Barabanki MPs Priyanka Rawat and Gopikrishna Pandey touched Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's feet to seek his blessings before filing their papers. UP minister Dharampal Singh was the first to file his papers, while Shruti Gangwar, daughter of Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar, was the last to do so.
BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary and both Deputy Chief Ministers, Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, were present during the nomination. Earlier, the RS candidates and BJP leaders assembled at the state BJP office and from there marched to Vidhan Bhawan. However, amid the chaos, the glass of the gate to the Assembly's committee room broke.
SP's Ram Gopal Yadav and Dhananjay Parimal Nathwani had already filed their nominations on September 30. The SP was initially considering fielding a third candidate, but Akhilesh Yadav declined.
Meanwhile, UP Minister and President of Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) O P Rajbhar took a dig at Akhilesh on X. He wrote, "That's it, it's all over! Sometimes, even if it's just a little bit, you do something sensible. Like you did today. As for 403, I'd just say that dreaming isn't a bad thing."
Consequently, the unopposed election of candidates for all 10 Rajya Sabha seats is considered certain.
On Wednesday, the Election Commission will scrutinise the nomination papers, and if all the papers are found in order, the candidates will be declared elected on the last date of withdrawal on October 9.
