Punjab CM Mann receives President Murmu in Chandigarh ahead of Himachal visit

Chandigarh, Oct 6 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann received President Droupadi Murmu on her arrival at Chandigarh airport on Tuesday, as the President travelled to neighbouring Himachal Pradesh for a three-day official visit.
Mann presented a bouquet to Murmu and welcomed her on behalf of the people of Punjab. Photographs of the reception were also shared on social media by the Punjab unit of the Aam Aadmi Party.
According to information released after the meeting, Mann and Murmu exchanged views on issues concerning Punjab and the country, though details of the subjects discussed were not immediately disclosed.
“It is a matter of great pride for all of us that President Murmu has arrived on this sacred land of gurus and saints,” Mann was quoted as saying while welcoming the President.
Murmu later reached Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh, where she was received by Governor Kavinder Gupta, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, according to the President of India’s official digital library.
The President is visiting Himachal Pradesh from Oct. 6 to Oct. 8, 2026, according to an official statement issued by the President’s Secretariat on Monday.
On Tuesday, Murmu is scheduled to attend the first convocation of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bilaspur, as the chief guest. The institution admitted its first batch of 100 MBBS students in 2020.
On Oct. 7, the President is scheduled to visit the Atal Tunnel at Rohtang in Lahaul-Spiti district, the President’s Secretariat said.
The visit has prompted heightened security arrangements in Bilaspur and the Kullu-Manali region, with traffic restrictions planned along routes to be used by the presidential convoy.
An earlier tentative itinerary had included other stops, but the latest official Rashtrapati Bhavan programme specifically confirms AIIMS Bilaspur on Oct. 6 and the Atal Tunnel on Oct. 7.
Tuesday’s reception in Chandigarh also comes months after Mann was unable to receive Murmu during her visit to Punjab in January 2026, when the President attended the 50th annual convocation of Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar. Mann was due to appear before the Akal Takht that day, according to local reports.UNI NB AAB
