BJP govt committed to restoring complete cleanliness and uninterrupted flow of Yamuna by May 2029

Mathura, Nov 6 (UNI) Work is underway on a war footing in Mathura-Vrindavan to clean and maintain the life-giving Yamuna River. Describing Yamuna purification as a priority, Mathura-Vrindavan MLA Shrikant Sharma said that the commitment to make Yamuna pollution-free in the holy city is rapidly becoming a reality.
Sharing the progress of ongoing sewerage and sanitation projects in Mathura on Friday, MLA Shrikant Sharma stated that most of the 36 drains in Mathura city have been tapped (intercepted and diverted). Only 4 to 5 drains remain to be tapped, which will be completed by December this year.
Additionally, both sewage treatment plants (STPs) at Masani and Gokul Barrage in the city are currently operating at full capacity, preventing wastewater from directly flowing into the Yamuna.
Taking aim at previous governments, he said that the Yamuna River suffered a deterioration due to the gross negligence of previous governments, and that vital works like drain tapping were left pending.
The Yamuna River continues to flow cleanly up to Sonia Vihar in Delhi, but the pending work is now being completed with dedication and speed under the Bharatiya Janata Party government.
Referring to the unprecedented contribution made by union Home Minister, Amit Shah, he said that development projects worth ₹8,941 crore have been inaugurated and foundation stones laid to strengthen the region's development and infrastructure.
Sharma assured the residents of the area that the BJP government is fully committed to restoring the complete cleanliness and uninterrupted flow of Yamuna River by May 2029.
