Two brothers held for Rs 7.75 lakh car break-in theft in Sirsa; police probe links to 12 cases

Sirsa, Nov 6 (UNI) Haryana Police have arrested two brothers from Punjab's Bathinda for allegedly stealing Rs 7.75 lakh from a parked car in Sirsa, with investigators linking them to nearly a dozen similar thefts across five states and union Territories, officials said.
The accused, identified as Kabir and Sumit Kumar, allegedly targeted parked vehicles by smashing their windows and stealing cash, mobile phones and other valuables.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhvir Singh said preliminary questioning indicated their involvement in thefts in Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir, including two incidents in Sirsa.
The arrests followed an investigation into an October 16 theft in Sirsa's Cotton Market, where Rs 7.75 lakh, a mobile phone and important documents were stolen from a Toyota car belonging to Vikas Kumar, a resident of Aggarwal Colony.
According to the complaint, Kumar had parked his car near a friend's shop and returned around 3 pm to find a side window smashed and the valuables missing.
Police registered a case at Sirsa City police station, following which Superintendent of Police Deepak Saharan directed special teams to trace the suspects.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a police team raided a location in Bathinda and arrested the brothers, who were reportedly originally from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh and had recently been living in Punjab.
The two were produced before a court on Thursday and remanded in police custody for four days.
Singh said investigators were questioning the accused to recover the stolen cash, establish their involvement in other thefts and identify possible associates.
