Panchkula deploys 773 police personnel, sets up 34 checkpoints for Diwali

Panchkula, Nov 6 (UNI) Panchkula Police have deployed 773 personnel and set up 34 checkpoints across the district for Diwali security, while restricting the use of firecrackers to designated hours on November 7 and 8, officials said on Friday.

Police Commissioner Pankaj Nain said security had been intensified at markets, religious places and other crowded locations, with additional patrolling and vehicle checks to maintain law and order during the festive season.
The security arrangements include 20 emergency response vehicles (ERVs), 29 police riders, 12 police control room (PCR) vehicles and three SWAT commandos.
All Assistant Commissioners of Police, Station House Officers and Crime Branch in-charges have been directed to maintain heightened vigilance, conduct checks on suspicious vehicles and individuals and ensure a quick response to emergencies.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Aditi Singh has also issued prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), regulating the sale and use of firecrackers across the district.
Under the orders, only green firecrackers will be permitted on November 7 and 8 between 6 am and 7 am and from 8 pm to 10 pm. The manufacture, sale and use of series firecrackers and those containing barium salts have been prohibited.
Firecrackers exceeding the prescribed noise limits of 125 dB(AI) or 145 dB(C) peak are also banned, police said. The orders prohibit bursting firecrackers within 300 metres of hospitals, schools, courts, religious institutions and other designated silence zones.
Temporary licence holders will be allowed to sell firecrackers only at locations designated by the district administration. Police said violations of the prohibitory orders could attract action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Nain said police patrolling had also been increased around hotels, dhabas, restaurants, markets and dharamshalas. Officers have been instructed to act against public drinking and drug consumption.
"The primary objective of these arrangements is to ensure public safety and maintain peace during the festive season," Nain said, according to the police statement.
Police have urged residents to report suspicious activity or unattended objects to the nearest police station or the emergency helpline 112, and to avoid touching unidentified objects.
