Saini hails Gurukul Kurukshetra's 180-acre natural farming model, calls for education for all

Kurukshetra, Nov 1 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday highlighted Gurukul Kurukshetra’s 180-acre natural farming facility, where crops are grown without chemical fertilisers or pesticides, citing it as a model for farmers across Haryana and northern India. He also emphasised the need to make education accessible to the most disadvantaged sections of society.
Addressing a function marking the centenary of freedom fighter and social reformer Swami Shraddhanand's martyrdom and the 114th foundation anniversary of Gurukul Kurukshetra, Saini said the institution demonstrated how traditional Indian values, modern scientific thinking and environmentally sustainable agriculture could contribute to national development.
President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the commemorative programme, which coincided with Haryana's diamond jubilee celebrations marking 60 years since the state's formation on November 1, 1966.
Haryana Governor Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh and Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat were also present.
The CM credited Acharya Devvrat with developing the natural farming facility and spreading awareness about chemical-free agriculture and sustainable lifestyles.
"The 180-acre natural farming facility at Gurukul Kurukshetra is a unique example not only for the farmers of Haryana but for the entire northern region," Saini said.
He said no chemical fertilisers or pesticides were used at the farm, which reflected the institution's commitment to promoting natural agricultural practices.
Praising Acharya Devvrat's dedication to the Gurukul and value-based education, Saini said his guidance had helped create greater awareness about natural farming.
Turning to education, the CM said a state's progress could not be measured solely through physical infrastructure or economic achievements, as its real foundation lay in education.
He called for making education accessible to every section of society, particularly those at the margins.
"The true tribute to Swami Shraddhanand would be to take the light of education to the last person in society," he said.
Saini said Swami Shraddhanand had recognised the transformative power of education during British rule and dedicated his life to awakening national consciousness, promoting social reform and strengthening India's freedom struggle.
Inspired by Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, the reformer advocated an educational system that would develop knowledge, moral character, discipline, courage and a spirit of service among students, he said.
The CM said Swami Shraddhanand believed the future of a nation depended on the values and capabilities of its younger generations.
He described Gurukul Kurukshetra, established in 1912, as a living example of the reformer's vision, combining Indian educational traditions with a scientific outlook.
Saini said the institution continued to promote the overall development of students through education rooted in knowledge, character and discipline.
Welcoming President Murmu, the CM said her participation in the programme after attending Haryana's diamond jubilee celebrations earlier in the day underscored the importance of education in the state's development.
"The real foundation of a state's progress is its education," he said.
Saini said the coincidence of Haryana's 60th foundation anniversary, Swami Shraddhanand's martyrdom centenary and Gurukul Kurukshetra's 114th foundation celebrations made the occasion particularly significant.
"Today, in the sacred premises of Gurukul Kurukshetra, the inspiration of history, the pride of the present and the resolve for the future are visible together," he said.
The Chief Minister said Swami Shraddhanand's centenary was an opportunity to renew the commitment to education, social reform and national service.
He expressed gratitude to President Murmu for inaugurating the programme and congratulated the Gurukul fraternity and the people of Haryana on the commemorative occasion.
