Shimla: CPI(M) condemns Israeli attacks on Palestine, demands ban on Indian arms exports to Israel

Shimla, June 27 (UNI) The Shimla District Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a strong protest today outside the District Magistrate’s office, condemning Israel’s continued military offensive in Palestine and demanded a ban on India’s arms and drone exports to Israel.
Party leaders accused the Israeli government of committing atrocities against innocent civilians and violating international law.
Led by Comrade Rakesh Singha, Sanjay Chauhan, Vijendra Mehra, Jagat Ram, and Maulana Mumtaz Ahmed Qasmi, the protesters alleged that over 56,000 Palestinians, including a large number of women and children, have been killed in Israeli strikes.
They said that hospitals, schools, refugee camps, and even UN buildings in Gaza have been deliberately targeted, with humanitarian aid being blocked.
The CPI(M) leaders claimed that the attacks are being carried out with the "backing of American imperialism", highlighting that the US provides US dollar 3.8 billion annually to Israel in military aid. They also cited a US dollar 5.3 billion assistance package given to Israel in August 2024.
Referring to the International Court of Justice's ruling on January 26, 2024, which termed the occupation of Palestinian territories illegal, the party criticised continued Israeli offensives and recent strikes on Lebanon and Iran as grave threats to global peace.
Targeting the BJP-led Modi government, the CPI(M) alleged that India has abandoned its historic support for Palestine.
"The government remained neutral in the UN and did not even issue a statement against the Israeli aggression," said CPI(M) leaders. They alleged that this silence is due to the Adani Group's business interests in Israeli arms and port sectors.
The CPI(M) demanded an immediate halt to Israeli attacks, a ban on India’s arms and drone exports to Israel, and a clear statement by Prime Minister Modi in support of Palestine, upholding India's independent foreign policy.
