Himachal Police pays homage to martyrs, reaffirms commitment to their families

Shimla, Oct 21 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Police observed Police Commemoration Day at Police Ground, Bharari, here on Wednesday, paying tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty and reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of their families.
Director General of Police Ashok Tewari led the commemorative ceremony, which was attended by senior police officers and personnel from various units of the state police.
In their messages, the Governor and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu paid homage to the police martyrs and acknowledged the courage, dedication and sacrifices of personnel who risk their lives to protect citizens and uphold the rule of law.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the sacrifices of the fallen personnel would continue to inspire generations and underscored the need for a professional, responsive and people-friendly police force committed to the safety and well-being of citizens. He also acknowledged the courage and resilience of the families of police martyrs.
The ceremony included a ceremonial parade, the reading of the names of police martyrs, the laying of floral wreaths and a two-minute silence in their memory.
Addressing the gathering, Tewari said every name remembered on the occasion represented a life of courage, a family that had suffered an irreparable loss and a sacrifice that could never truly be repaid.
He said the martyrs had upheld the highest ideals of the police uniform and laid down their lives to ensure the safety of others.
The DGP also paid special tribute to the families of police martyrs, noting that while the nation remembered the fallen heroes with pride, their families continued to endure the pain of their loss. He reiterated that the welfare, dignity and well-being of these families would remain a priority for the police organisation.
Police Commemoration Day is observed across the country on October 21 every year in memory of 10 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who were killed in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh in 1959.
The day also honours police personnel who have since made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
The observance serves as a reminder of the courage and dedication of police personnel and their commitment to protecting citizens, maintaining law and order and safeguarding the nation.
The state police reiterated that the sacrifices of its martyrs would continue to inspire serving personnel and that supporting their bereaved families remained an enduring responsibility.
