Gurugram on alert as three-day power strike begins Oct 22; emergency plans drawn up for essential services

Gurugram, Oct 21 (UNI) The Gurugram administration on Wednesday ordered contingency arrangements to maintain electricity supply to hospitals, water supply installations, Metro services and other essential facilities as power employees prepare for a three-day strike from October 22 to 24, raising concerns over possible disruptions across the district.
Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh, who reviewed the situation with senior electricity officials, directed Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) to deploy alternative resources and ensure immediate restoration of supply in the event of outages.
The strike has been called by the All India Power Corporation and various electricity employees' unions, with a large number of DHBVN employees expected to participate.
Singh instructed officials to maintain round-the-clock vigilance, prioritise complaints involving essential services and coordinate with other departments to minimise inconvenience to consumers.
The district-level review followed a video conference chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday evening, during which he directed deputy commissioners across Haryana to prepare for the proposed strike.
Saini said the state government would challenge the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission's decision to grant a parallel electricity distribution licence to a private company in Gurugram and Nuh before the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity.
He appealed to electricity employees to avoid the strike, assuring them that the government supported their concerns and remained open to negotiations.
The administration advised consumers to report power outages and emergencies through DHBVN helplines 1912 and 180010804334, or WhatsApp numbers 8813999708 and 9540954768.
DHBVN Superintending Engineers Shyamveer Saini and Manoj Yadav, and HVPNL Superintending Engineer K.K. Sarkar attended the meeting.
