Himachal Pradesh: Over 8,000 MT apples procured under MIS, 17,000 growers register on HPMIS

Shimla, September 24 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh government has procured more than 8,000 metric tonnes of apples under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) so far this season, with over 17,000 apple growers registering on the HPMIS portal, aimed at streamlining procurement, ensuring transparency and facilitating direct payment to farmers.
The procurement, which commenced on August 1, 2026, through 213 Apple Collection Centres (ACCs) operated by the Himachal Pradesh Horticulture Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation (HPMC) and HIMFED, will continue until October 31.
A government spokesperson said here on Thursday that the state government has introduced complete digitisation of MIS operations for the 2026-27 season through the HPMIS portal, covering farmer registration, procurement, digital receipt generation, transportation, processing, monitoring and payment.
The system is available through Android and iOS applications, with registration made mandatory as a one-time exercise.
Under the new arrangement, farmers who register this year will not be required to repeat the process in subsequent years.
They will only have to inform the concerned Apple Collection Centre through the HPMIS portal before depositing their produce.
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the state government had accorded priority to protecting the interests of apple growers and strengthening Himachal Pradesh's horticulture economy.
He said the Market Intervention Scheme provided relief to growers during periods of market glut, facilitated value addition and helped regulate the arrival of low-grade fruit in the open market.
The Chief Minister said digitisation of MIS operations was an important step towards making the scheme more transparent, accountable and farmer-friendly. One-time registration, digital receipts, real-time monitoring and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) would reduce procedural difficulties and facilitate the timely transfer of eligible payments directly into farmers' bank accounts, he added.
The Chief Minister urged growers to complete their HPMIS registration at the earliest, use designated collection centres and retain digitally generated receipts for their records. He also advised farmers to approach the concerned ACC, HPMC, HIMFED, Lok Mitra Kendra or Gram Panchayat for assistance with registration, procurement or payment-related issues.
According to the spokesperson, apple growers can register through self-registration, Common Service Centres, Lok Mitra Kendras or with assistance from Gram Panchayats. In Shimla district alone, 681 Lok Mitra Kendras have been made available to facilitate the registration process.
After registration, farmers are required to bring their apples to designated collection centres. The quantity accepted under MIS is recorded digitally, following which a receipt is generated through HPMIS.
A copy of the receipt is made available to the farmer through the registered mobile number or account.
Eligible MIS payments are transferred directly to registered bank accounts through DBT, subject to verification and fulfilment of applicable scheme conditions. Farmers have been advised to ensure that their mobile numbers and bank account details are correctly updated on the portal.
The digitised system has also reduced the need for growers to repeatedly visit HPMC or HIMFED offices for submitting records and receipts. It enables real-time monitoring of procurement, transportation and processing at HPMC plants located at Parala in Shimla, Parwanoo in Solan and Jadol in Mandi.
The government said digital generation of receipts, challans, reports and registers had streamlined implementation and facilitated quicker disposal of procured apples.
Apple is the major fruit crop of Himachal Pradesh, accounting for approximately 80 per cent of total fruit production and nearly 50 per cent of the area under fruit cultivation.
Shimla is the leading apple-producing district, contributing around 55 per cent of the state's production, followed by Kullu, Kinnaur and Mandi.
