Himachal wins historic BBMB arrears battle, to get 60 crore units of power annually for 20 years: CM

Shimla, Nov 6 (UNI) Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday described the Supreme Court verdict on the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) arrears case as a historic victory for Himachal Pradesh, saying the state would receive 60 crore units of electricity annually for 20 years, generating revenue estimated at Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 20,000 crore during the period.
Congratulating the nearly 75 lakh people of the state on the achievement, Sukhu said the verdict was the result of the state government's sustained legal battle, determination and commitment to securing Himachal Pradesh's financial and constitutional rights.
He said the additional electricity allocation could generate revenue of up to Rs 1,000 crore annually, depending on the rate at which the power was valued. At a rate of Rs 13 to Rs 14 per unit, the state could earn substantially more, while even at Rs 6 per unit, the annual revenue would be around Rs 500 crore, he added.
The Chief Minister said the additional income would help strengthen the state's financial position and accelerate development activities.
The funds would be utilised to improve education and healthcare facilities, develop roads and infrastructure, create employment opportunities for youth and ensure timely payment of financial benefits to government employees.
Describing the BBMB outcome as the fourth major success of his government in safeguarding the state's interests, Sukhu said the government had earlier pursued matters concerning Wildflower Hall, JSW and the Kishau Dam.
He said the latest achievement demonstrated that sustained efforts could secure the state's legitimate rights even in difficult legal disputes.
He maintained that the government would continue pursuing other pending issues, including the Shanan Power Project and Water Cess, to ensure that Himachal Pradesh received its rightful share of resources and revenue.
Sukhu said protecting the state's natural resources and wealth was among the government's top priorities.
The people had entrusted him with the responsibility of safeguarding Himachal Pradesh's interests for five years, and he was discharging it with honesty and dedication, he added.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the continued efforts to secure the rightful value of the state's resources would help make Himachal Pradesh self-reliant and enable it to emerge as the country's most prosperous and happiest state by 2032.
