Gurugram court sentences man to 20 years in prison for raping minor

Gurugram, Oct 7 (UNI) A Gurugram court has sentenced a man to 20 years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 after convicting him under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in a case involving the rape of a 15-year-old minor.
According to Gurugram Police, the case dates back to October 14, 2021, when the girl’s family reported her missing at Sadar Sohna police station.
After the minor was traced, relevant provisions of the IPC and the POCSO Act were added to the case.
Police arrested the accused, Ravi, a resident of Gangoh in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on January 19, 2022.
Following the arrest, the investigating team conducted a detailed probe, recorded statements of witnesses and collected evidence before filing the charge sheet before the court.
After considering the evidence and witness testimonies presented during the trial, the court convicted the accused on October 6, 2026 and sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, besides imposing a fine of Rs 30,000.
The conviction follows the prosecution's presentation of the evidence gathered during the investigation, which established the charges against the accused.
Gurugram Police has said that cases involving crimes against children are being investigated and pursued before courts on priority.
