After HC's stay on SC reservations in medical colleges, Mayawati advised govt to approach SC

Lucknow, Sep 18 (UNI) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has urged the Yogi Adityanath government to appeal to the Supreme Court regarding the High Court's stay on additional reservations for SCs in four medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh.
Mayawati, in a post on X on Friday morning, stated that social justice requires and demands that the Uttar Pradesh government strongly advocate before the Court that the additional reservation for SCs in the medical colleges built in Saharanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Kannauj, and Jalaun using funds from the Special Component Plan for the benefit and welfare of the SC community is separate from the general 50% reservation.
She said that if this arrangement proves the full utility of the Special Component Plan, then perhaps the Hon'ble Court would have considered it positively and not imposed a stay.
In her another point, Mayawati stated that now that the High Court has banned this practice and medical admissions are also affected, it would be appropriate for the UP government to immediately appeal to the Supreme Court for the required relief.
It is noteworthy that during the BSP government's tenure, medical colleges were established in these four districts using the SCP Fund, in which special reservations were provided for SC students. Following the recent High Court decision, confusion has arisen over the admission process in these colleges.
