BJP Chief Nitin Nabin Leads "Loktantra Bachao" Padyatra in Rohtak, Slams Congress Over 1984 Riots, Electoral Rolls

Rohtak (Haryana), Nov 1 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party National President Nitin Nabin on Sunday led a march under the party's "Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao" campaign here accusing the Congress and Rahul Gandhi of spreading anarchy and making baseless allegations against constitutional institutions after electoral defeats.
The padyatra began at Chhotu Ram Polytechnic College and concluded at D Park in Model Town. Nabin garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and addressed a large gathering. Haryana BJP President Archana Gupta, union Minister of State Jayant Chaudhary, Haryana in-charge Smriti Irani and co-in-charge Bhola Singh were among those present.
Nabin said the march aimed to strengthen democracy and uphold the people's mandate. Responding to the question of why democracy needs protection when the BJP-led NDA is in power from Delhi to many states, he said NDA workers take to the streets with the people whenever the Opposition disrespects their mandate.
Noting that November 1 is both Haryana's Foundation Day and the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh violence, Nabin said the Congress should have used the day for repentance and an apology. He recalled Rajiv Gandhi's "when a big tree falls, the earth shakes" remark to explain the anti-sikh riots, and asked Rahul Gandhi to express remorse instead of staging a protest.
Attacking the Congress's internal functioning, Nabin said the party is run by a single family and lacks internal democracy. He said Congress leaders carry copies of the Constitution but have undermined it, citing the Allahabad High Court ruling that set aside Indira Gandhi's election for misuse of government machinery.
On the Congress's claim that 13 crore votes were deleted, Nabin said any NDA worker could account for them. He claimed that 2.5 crore of these were deceased persons, six crore had shifted residence, and three crore were "infiltrators." He asked why the Congress was defending such entries and said efforts to remove infiltrators would continue.
Accusing the Congress of double standards, Nabin said it calls its wins in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka a triumph of democracy, but claims democracy is in danger when it loses in Haryana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Bengal. He also alleged that the Nehru-Gandhi family had insulted Dr B. R. Ambedkar.
Nabin further alleged that Rahul Gandhi was acting at the behest of foreign powers. He said no one could destabilise a government elected by the people, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would address the nation from the Red Fort again in 2029. He added that the PM has a deep attachment to Haryana, quoting Modi as saying his heart lies in the state.
Taking a swipe at the Opposition's rally in Delhi, Nabin claimed that "not even 10 per cent" of the expected crowd would gather there, and that more people had assembled in Rohtak district alone. He described the Opposition's allies as leaders defeated by the people, naming the Samajwadi Party, RJD and Mamata Banerjee. UNI KK CDS
