Smriti Irani begins Haryana BJP review, focuses on 42 seats party failed to win

Panchkula, Oct 22 (UNI) BJP Haryana in-charge Smriti Irani began a two-day organisational review on Thursday, seeking feedback on the 42 Assembly constituencies the party failed to win in the last election and examining ways to strengthen its local organisation.
Irani and co-in-charge Bhola Singh were welcomed by state BJP president Archana Gupta at the party’s Panchkamal office. This is Irani’s first formal organisational visit after taking charge of the party’s Haryana affairs.
The BJP secured a third consecutive term in Haryana in 2024, winning 48 of the Assembly’s 90 seats. The review will examine its performance in the remaining constituencies, organisational weaknesses and challenges faced by local leaders and workers.
State BJP media in-charge and senior spokesperson Sanjay Sharma said meetings would continue over two days, involving organisational office-bearers, former MPs and district presidents.
Sharma said the interactions would also allow Irani to become acquainted with party leaders and assess ongoing activities in her new role.
Ahead of the visit, Gupta said, “The idea of the meetings is to hold a dialogue with the state office bearers, district presidents and district in-charges.”
Thursday’s programme included separate sessions with the state president, organisation general secretary, state general secretaries and other office-bearers, followed by discussions with district in-charges and district presidents.
Afternoon meetings were scheduled with former public representatives, particularly leaders who served as MLAs during the 2009, 2014 and 2019 Assembly terms.
Separate interactions were also planned with leaders who had served three terms as state office-bearers and with chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of government boards and corporations.
The discussions are expected to cover reasons for electoral setbacks, the condition of local party units, worker participation and preparations for future electoral contests.
On October 23, Irani and Singh are scheduled to hold discussions with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and ministers, extending the review to coordination between the government and the party organisation.
