BJP alleges ‘vote robbery’ in Palampur, seeks CBI probe and fresh polls

Palampur, Oct 6 (UNI) BJP leader Trilok Kapoor on Tuesday alleged large-scale irregularities in the electoral rolls for the Palampur Municipal Corporation elections, claiming that genuine young voters were excluded while votes of outsiders were included.
Kapoor alleged that around 250 votes from Ward 1 of Lohana were registered in Nachir Panchayat, while 90 Dalit voters were deleted from Ward 9, Chowki. He also claimed that 20-30 old voters were systematically removed from each ward.
He further alleged that the voter list was not made public on the day of its final publication and that the supplementary list was not provided to BJP candidates until the last date for filing nominations.
According to him, voters in the supplementary list had “0” as their house number and lacked EPIC numbers. Citing provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, Kapoor demanded a CBI probe, registration of FIRs against those holding duplicate EPIC cards and strict action against those responsible.
The BJP also demanded Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls for municipal corporations, municipal councils, nagar panchayats and gram panchayats, besides the Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies.
Kapoor said the party would approach the Himachal Pradesh High Court with the alleged evidence and seek cancellation of the Palampur municipal elections and fresh polls after purification of the electoral rolls. He described the issue as a fight between “fake votes and real voters” and alleged that the Congress was opposing SIR to protect bogus votes. UNI AR CDS
