Political battle over UCC intensifies, Sangeet Som targets Owaisi and Akhilesh

Lucknow, Sep 16 (UNI) Following union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented in all 21 BJP-led NDA states before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, political rhetoric on the issue has intensified in Uttar Pradesh.
Former BJP MLA Sangeet Som launched a scathing attack on those opposing the UCC, asserting that the UCC will be implemented despite opposition.
Amit Shah had stated in Mumbai on September 13 that the UCC would be implemented in all 21 BJP-NDA-ruled states before 2029.
Responding to AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi's opposition to the UCC, Sangeet Som said that every person living in the country must abide by the country's laws.
He described the UCC as a law that provides justice and equality to women.
Aiming at Owaisi, he said that some people do not want equality and are therefore opposing the UCC.
Som claimed that the people of the country want the UCC and that no matter how much force those opposing it use after Home Minister Amit Shah's announcement, the UCC will be implemented.
Sangit Som also attacked Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav for describing the UCC as an "underground communal conspiracy."
He taunted Akhilesh Yadav, saying that he has no work and is only playing politics on social media.
Som said that Akhilesh Yadav cannot become the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh again.
Sangeet Som said that the demand for the UCC has been there for a long time and the BJP is advancing its key issues while following the Constitution.
He also questioned the argument that the UCC is against the Muslim community, saying that its purpose is to establish equality.
It is worth noting that assembly elections are scheduled in Uttar Pradesh next year.
In such a scenario, the rhetoric between the BJP and opposition parties on the UCC is being linked to the electoral debate.

Lucknow, Sep 16 (UNI) Thanks to the constant monitoring of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, 102 sugar mills made 100pc payment to sugarcane farmers in the 2025-26 crushing season. Meanwhile, 23 cooperative sugar mills made payments of Rs 2,820 crore.
The three mills of the State Sugar Corporation operating in the state have paid Rs543.51 crore for the 2025-26 crushing season. Private sugar mills have also made 100pc payment to farmers.
