Allahabad HC issues notice on jailed journalist Satyam Verma's NSA detention plea

Prayagraj, Sep16 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the Centre, Uttar Pradesh government and other authorities on a habeas corpus petition filed by jailed journalist and author Satyam Verma, challenging his preventive detention under the National Security Act (NSA) in connection with the labour movement in Noida.
A division bench comprising Justice Atul Shridharan and Justice Achal Sachdev issued notices to the union of India, the Uttar Pradesh government, the Noida District Magistrate and the Police Commissioner, seeking their responses within two weeks.
The court directed Verma to file a rejoinder affidavit within one week of receiving the respondents' replies.The matter has been posted for the next hearing on October 7.
Verma has challenged his detention under the NSA, alleging that it was linked to his participation in the labour movement following unrest and violence reported on April 13 in the Phase-2 industrial area of Noida.
Through the habeas corpus petition, Verma has sought quashing of the detention order as well as subsequent orders passed in connection with his preventive detention.
