CM Dhami comes down heavily on cabinet colleague in latter's battle with her husband

Prithviraj Singh
Dehradun, Oct 22 (UNI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday came down heavily on his cabinet colleague Rekha Arya in the latter's ongoing battle with her husband Girdhari Lal Sahu.
The Chief Minister questioned Arya's allegations against her husband for hiding his first marriage, threat to kill her and hurling casteist slurs at her.
Replying to the media on a query pertaining to Rekha's Arya's allegations against her husband of hiding his first marriage, Dhami said without naming her, "It's a matter of investigation as to the backdrop of these charges, and on what basis it was done. They had been living together for 22 years. Why did she not make these allegations for 22 years.
"It's a question why no allegation was made till date. Why these charges have cropped up today only. And the truth of the allegations made by someone will be established only after a proper probe," said the Uttarakhand chief minister.
It's notable that Sahu went underground after Rekha Arya lodged a written complaint against him at Dehradun Cantonment Police Station on October 15.
Following this an FIR was filed against her husband and he was booked under multiple charges of BNS including threat to kill the minister, bigamy, cheating, under SC-ST Act, harassment and unleashing violence against her along with other charges.
In the complaint against Sahu, Uttarakhand minister Arya alleged that her husband concealed his first marriage and children born from that when he married her, besides also having extramarital affairs.
Arya, who heads the portfolio of minister for sports and social welfare, alleged that when she contested and questioned Sahu's extramarital affairs he assaulted her and spewed caste-slurs in front of staff at her official residence.
Sahu was also accused of axing the minister as director of a company, forging her signatures and conspiring to kill her while talking to a woman in an audio clip that was released by Arya on social media.
Following this, the Uttarakhand government constituted a Special Investigation Team(SIT) to probe the matter. The SIT recorded the minister's statement on Monday evening but her husband is allegedly on the run.

Chief Minister Dhami questioned the veracity of the contents of the audio clip in which Sahu was heard talking to another woman issuing a threat to kill Arya, and said, "The mere hearing of a name in an audio clip can't be considered as evidence. Only the one who has done a crime will be a criminal. Law is taking its own course. Guilty will not be decided on your allegation. It's not that he will be guilty because someone wants to take political advantage from it. Only the one guilty in the eyes of law will be considered as accused."
The Chief Minister stated that the contents of controversial audio clip are being probed by the police in order to stop reccurrence of such incidents in future without sparing the guilty.
"The audio clip is being investigated. Such incidents must not be repeated for it impacts public life. It puts a question mark on the justice system, probe agencies and the entire administrative machinery. I firmly believe there must be an impartial investigation, and let the truth come out. No guilty should be spared," said Dhami.
