Haryana opens power distribution to competition; Eleven Power gets 25-year licence for Gurugram, Nuh

Chandigarh, Oct 19 (UNI) In a major shift from the existing electricity distribution system, the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) on Monday granted Eleven Power Private Limited a 25-year parallel distribution licence for Gurugram and Nuh districts, paving the way for more than 8.3 lakh consumers to choose between competing electricity suppliers.
The decision, the first of its kind in Haryana, will allow a private company to establish a parallel distribution network alongside the existing utility, potentially introducing competition in electricity supply, service quality and consumer choice.
Eleven Power plans to invest Rs 4,717 crore over five years in developing its distribution infrastructure, with electricity supply expected to begin in the 2027-28 financial year.
