UP govt's festive gift: 24-hour power supply during Diwali and Chhath

Lucknow, Oct 29 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government has intensified preparations to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the people of the state during Diwali, Chhath, and other festivals.
Urban Development and Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma has directed electricity department officials to ensure 24-hour power supply during the festivals. He clearly stated that Diwali is the festival of lights, and therefore, unnecessary power outages and frequent power cuts will not be tolerated.
Mr Sharma said that consumers' connections should not be disconnected during the festival season in the name of outstanding dues recovery. Large and organized power thieves should be identified and strict action should be taken against them as per the rules, and small consumers should not be unnecessarily harassed.
The Energy Minister directed officials to expedite the resolution of pending applications for electricity connections on the Jhatpat Portal and to review rejected applications to improve the system. He also directed that consumers who regularly pay their electricity bills should not face problems like tripping and power outages due to defaulters. Where necessary, transformer capacity should be expanded immediately. The Energy Minister congratulated consumers on the 9.70 per cent reduction in November's electricity bills. This will directly benefit domestic, commercial, and other categories for the fifth consecutive month.
Reviewing the power system in the newly created Nagar Panchayats, Minister AK Sharma said that uninterrupted and quality power supply should be ensured in these areas, similar to the headquarters. He said that the Urban Development Department is ready to provide additional budget as needed, and therefore, work should be done expeditiously to improve the power system.
