Punjab Police conducts 563 raids, arrests 230 under anti-gangster drive

Chandigarh, Oct 7 (UNI) Punjab Police on Wednesday conducted 563 raids at identified locations linked to gangster associates and arrested 230 people as its statewide “Gangstran Te Vaar” campaign entered its 260th day, police said.
Police said one weapon was recovered during the operation, while preventive action was taken against 226 people and five proclaimed offenders were arrested.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav launched the campaign on January 20, with district police forces conducting operations in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force.
Police claimed the cumulative number of arrests under the campaign had reached 76,820. “People can anonymously report information related to wanted criminals and gangsters, and also share tips on crime and criminal activity through the Anti-Gangster Helpline number 93946-93946,” police said.
Separately, Punjab Police said it arrested 90 alleged drug smugglers on the 585th day of its “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign and recovered 340 grams of heroin, 1.2 kg of opium, 398 intoxicant pills and Rs 10.99 lakh in alleged drug money. Police said the cumulative number of alleged drug smugglers arrested under the campaign had reached 83,049.
Police also said 10 people were persuaded on Wednesday to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment as part of the anti-drug programme.
