10,000 Pind Daan performed in Varanasi for unborn daughters

Varanasi, Oct 4 (UNI) On the occasion of Matru Navami during the Pitru Paksha (festival of Mother's Day), Pind Daan and Tarpan rituals were performed for the peace of the souls of unborn daughters killed in the womb at the Dashashwamedh Ghat in Kashi on Sunday under the aegis of the Aagaman Samajik Sanstha.
The organisation's founding secretary, Santosh Ojha, in the presence of five Vedic Acharyas, conducted Pind Daan, Tarpan, Panchbali, and a Brahmin feast for approximately 10,000 unborn daughters.
A special Pind altar was constructed from the sacred soil of the Ganga, and the ground was consecrated with Ganga water, Kusha grass, and fire. The ritual commenced amidst Vedic chanting and Shanti Path.
Under the guidance of the Acharyas, Ojha reverently invoked the souls of unborn daughters and pledged for their peace and salvation. Pinds were offered with Kusha grass, barley, sesame seeds, and Ganga water.
Each Pind was installed as a symbol of a daughter, and sandalwood, flowers, incense sticks, lamps, and naivedya were offered. After this, Tarpan was performed facing the south.
According to the organisation, a public awareness campaign has been running since 2001 for women empowerment and against female foeticide. This was the organisation's 13th annual Pind Daan ritual. Under the leadership of Ojha, about 1.5 lakh unborn daughters have been offered Tarpan in the past years. This year, with 10,000 Pind Daan, this number increased to about 1 lakh 60 thousand.
