Haryana orders tighter security, CCTV surveillance at temples during Navratri

Jhajjar, Oct 11(UNI) The Jhajjar district administration has ordered enhanced security, CCTV surveillance and tighter crowd-control measures at temples and religious venues during the nine-day Sharadiya Navratri festival to prevent stampedes and ensure devotees’ safety.
Deputy Commissioner Varsha Khangwal said the administration is on high alert for the festival, being observed from October 11 to 19, with special attention to major temples, religious sites, fairs and night-long devotional programmes.
"The safety of devotees is our highest priority. All departments must work in close coordination to ensure that Navratri celebrations are peaceful, safe and well-organised, allowing people to offer prayers without inconvenience," Khangwal said.
She directed officials to deploy additional police personnel at major temples, Shakti Peeths and religious pandals, particularly at venues expected to attract large gatherings.
The administration has also called for CCTV surveillance at prominent religious sites, with footage monitored through control rooms to enable a prompt response to suspicious activities and emergencies.
Emphasising the need to prevent overcrowding and stampede-like situations, Khangwal instructed the departments concerned to maintain effective coordination with organisers and ensure orderly movement of devotees.
She directed that adequate firefighting equipment, medical assistance, drinking water and other essential facilities be made available at religious venues to deal with emergencies.
The administration has also asked organising committees to comply strictly with safety guidelines and cooperate with police and civic authorities in managing crowds.
Khangwal appealed to residents and devotees to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious activities or emergencies to the police or concerned officials.
She said coordinated security arrangements and public cooperation were essential to ensure that the festival concluded peacefully without compromising the safety and convenience of worshippers.UNI KK AAB
