UP: Supporters of Ajay Rai & Aradhana Mishra Mona clash during swearing in ceremony

Lucknow, Oct 11 (UNI) A clash between the supporters of outgoing state President Ajay Rai and the new President Aradhana Mishra Mona was witnessed during the swearing-in ceremony at the UP Congress office here on Sunday.
Shoes and slippers were thrown at each other and there was pushing and shoving. The commotion continued for 30 minutes.

The dispute began when former president Rai arrived at the swearing-in ceremony of UP Congress president Mona and acting president Imran Masood. Upon seeing him, Congress leader and local councillor Mamta Chaudhary said to Rai, "I don't want to see your face, go away."

Hearing this, Rai turned back and said, "Stay within your limits." At that moment, one of his supporters took out his shoe. A scuffle then broke out between supporters of both sides.
Following the commotion, Rai sat on a sit-in protest. Seeing the situation escalate, MP Pramod Tiwari and Imran Masood tried to pacify Rai. Pramod Tiwari folded his hands in front of Rai.
However, Rai alleged that he was abused. During his protest, Rai also spoke with Rahul Gandhi on the phone. After this, he withdrew the protest.
Rai and Chaudhary have been at loggerheads for the past three years. Rai had banned Mamta from entering the party office. Chaudhary is considered close to UP Congress President Mona.

According to sources, Rai has demanded that Rahul Gandhi expel Chaudhary from the party. Gandhi has asked him to sit down and talk to him, and also asked him not to make any statements on the matter.

Later, Rai did not attend the press conference and left the venue.

Imran Masood, while talking to the media, defended Rai, saying, "It is not customary for former presidents to attend press conferences. He has been relieved of his duties at the party office."

Masood said, "The party has placed its trust in me. We strive to live up to that trust. We will definitely bring about change in Uttar Pradesh and strengthen the UP Congress. The All India Alliance will contest the elections strongly."
Meanwhile, UP BJP took a dig at the fight between the Congress leaders. The post read, "Fighting in the shop of love. The new state president humiliated former president Ajay Rai at the Congress office."
