Bharat Taxi to expand to 12 more UP cities ahead of Navratri, Diwali

Lucknow, Oct 3 (UNI) Booking a taxi by mobile phone is set to become easier across Uttar Pradesh during Navratri and Diwali, with app-based service Bharat Taxi preparing to expand to more cities amid an expected rise in passenger demand.
The service, currently available in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Kanpur and Prayagraj, is expected to reach 12 more cities within a month, officials said.
The UP government is striving to provide significant convenience to the people of the state during the festivals.
Preparations are under way to launch the service in Ayodhya, Agra and Meerut before Navratri, with driver registration and vehicle onboarding already under way in several cities. This will expand the reach of the app-based taxi service beyond the state's major metropolises to smaller cities.
The next phase is expected to include Mathura, Firozabad, Muzaffarnagar, Hapur, Sitapur, Hathras, Etawah, Mirzapur and Rae Bareli. Officials said efforts to register drivers and vehicles in these cities had been accelerated.
The expansion includes several religious and tourist destinations. Ayodhya and Mathura attract large numbers of pilgrims, while Agra is a major tourist destination.
Bharat Taxi also plans to bring two-wheeler and three-wheeler drivers onto its platform, potentially expanding options for short-distance travel.
More than 50,000 drivers have joined Bharat Taxi in Uttar Pradesh, according to the state government. The number is expected to rise as the service expands to additional cities.
State Cooperation Minister JPS Rathore said passenger demand typically rises around urban markets, religious sites, railway stations and bus terminals during Navratri and Diwali. He said the expansion was being accelerated in view of the expected increase in demand.
The latest expansion would take the app-based taxi service beyond Uttar Pradesh's larger cities and into a number of smaller urban centres.
