Sharp rainfall variation across Chhattisgarh, Balrampur gets 1,488.5 mm, Kanker 945.7 mm

Raipur, Sep 19 (UNI) The monsoon has produced sharply different rainfall patterns across Chhattisgarh this year, with Balrampur having received 1,488.5 mm since June 1, equivalent to 169.7 per cent of its normal rainfall, while Kanker has recorded 945.7 mm, just 67 pc of normal- the lowest in the state.
The contrast comes against a state-wide rainfall total of 996.5 mm, or 96.4% of the normal 1,033.6 mm, according to figures released by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department up to September 19.
Balrampur's rainfall is the highest recorded in the state in percentage terms. The district has received nearly 70% more rain than its seasonal average for the period. Kanker, on the other hand, has received less than two-thirds of its normal rainfall. The variation is visible even within the same region. In the Surguja division, Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur has recorded 1,139.9 mm (122.6%), while Surajpur has received 1,138.1 mm (111.5%). But Surguja district has managed only 594.9 mm (77.3%) and Jashpur 805.1 mm (81.2%). Koriya has recorded 892.8 mm (97%).
