Haryana: Sonipat records worst air quality in NCR with AQI at 224, Delhi at 153

Panchkula, Oct 25 (UNI) Sonipat emerged as the most polluted city in the National Capital Region (NCR) on Sunday, recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 224 in the ‘poor’ category, significantly higher than Delhi's 153, according to the latest air quality bulletin released at 4 pm.
Sonipat was the only city among those listed in the NCR bulletin to fall into the ‘poor’ category, with fine particulate matter (PM2.5) identified as the dominant pollutant.
The 24-hour average air quality data showed considerable variation across Haryana's NCR districts. Bahadurgarh recorded an AQI of 175, followed by Manesar at 155, Dharuhera at 136, Gurugram at 134, Faridabad and Narnaul at 124 each, and Mandikhera in Nuh district at 120. All these locations remained in the ‘moderate’ category.
Several towns in Haryana reported comparatively cleaner air. Karnal recorded an AQI of 56, Jind 59, Bhiwani 70, Charkhi Dadri 74, Palwal 76, Rohtak 88 and Ballabgarh 95, placing them in the ‘satisfactory’ category.
Among other NCR cities, Rajasthan's Bhiwadi recorded an AQI of 165, while Meerut stood at 160, both in the ‘moderate’ category. Noida registered 131, Greater Noida 134 and Ghaziabad 125.
The bulletin warned that ‘poor’ air quality could cause breathing discomfort to most people on prolonged exposure, while ‘moderate’ pollution levels could affect people suffering from lung ailments, asthma and heart diseases.
The figures underline the uneven pollution burden across the NCR, with Sonipat recording substantially worse air quality than several neighbouring industrial and urban centres.
