Cloudburst triggers flash floods, teenager among 3 dead, six rescued in Jammu region

Jammu, Jun 26 (UNI) At least three people including a teenager were killed and six others rescued in flash floods triggered due to cloudburst and heavy rains in various regions of Jammu.
Officials said that heavy rains and cloudburst were reported today in parts of Rajouri, Poonch, Kathua and Doda districts due to which three people including a teenager were killed.
They said that 14-year-old Shaqafat Ali and his cousin Safeena Kousar (11) were washed away in flash floods in Sialsui Mou village of Kalakote of Rajouri district when they were grazing cattle.
Officials said that the rescue team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) also recovered the body of one Basharat Hussain (32) who drowned on June 23 while bathing in Doda district.

Meanwhile, a ten year old girl namely Saima, was also rescued and shifted to hospital in Naushera.
Officials added that some persons trapped in Ujh river in Kathua and in Poonch were also rescued.
They got trapped when the water level in the river swollen due to heavy rains in the higher reaches and the plains.
Meanwhile the administration has banned swimming, bathing, fishing, and school picnics near water bodies.
Jammu and Kashmir MeT has forecast eavy rain showers to affect parts of during next 24 hours.
Due to active monsoon conditions, heavy rain showers are expected in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly Jammu Region during the next 24 hours, said an official.
He said that there is a risk of cloudbursts and intense showers and may lead to localized flash flooding in a few vulnerable spots.
