AP CM asks officials to be on the alert as cyclone Murasu approaches

Vijayawada, Nov 2 (UNI) After facing the fury of cyclone Arnab, Andhra Pradesh is bracing for the challenge posed by cyclone Murasu.
However, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who conducted a review meeting on Murasu cyclone preparedness with senior officials and district Collectors here on Monday, stated that its impact on the Andhra Pradesh coast is likely to be relatively limited, pointing out that forecasts indicate that wind speeds and rainfall intensity are also expected to be lower compared to Cyclone Arnab. But, nevertheless, he directed officials to remain fully alert.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to make effective use of the rainfall from the cyclone to fill tanks and reservoirs through efficient water management. Naidu told the officials to fill irrigation tanks and reservoirs in Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore and Markapuram districts using the rainwater as the districts experiencing a rainfall deficit. He instructed the officials to formulate an action plan to store water in reservoirs across the South Coastal and Rayalaseema basins.
The officials informed the Chief Minister that 31,000 electricity poles had been dispatched to the field from Srikakulam to Krishna district, adding that they estimated that around 8,000 electricity poles in the South Coastal and Rayalaseema districts could be affected by the winds associated with Cyclone Murasu.
Stating that 1,000 personnel are arriving from Chennai to assist in power restoration works, the Chief Minister directed officials to deploy them across various districts, including Nellore and Prakasam.
The officials apprised the Chief Minister that Palnadu district is expected to receive the highest rainfall of around 30 cm, followed by Prakasam with 24 cm and Markapuram with 19 cm. Krishna and Guntur districts may receive up to 9 cm of rainfall. Eluru and Nellore are also likely to receive around 9 cm each.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to pay special attention to the safety of 6,800 tanks across the six districts likely to be affected by Cyclone Murasu. He called for the activation of Water Users Associations and stressed the need to monitor the condition of tanks with public participation.
The Chief Minister directed officials to complete post-cyclone restoration works within 48 hours. He also stressed the need to expedite the crop insurance compensation and input subsidy processes. UNI DP CDS
