AP CM directs officials to take steps to prevent infectious diseases

Vijayawada, June 28 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu instructed officials of the Municipal Administration Department to prioritise cleanliness in municipalities and municipal corporations and to take preventive measures against the spread of infectious diseases.

The Chief Minister conducted a review meeting on the department at the Chief Minister’s camp office. The discussions covered departmental performance, progress of ongoing projects, establishment of waste management plants, and provision of basic infrastructure in municipalities and corporations, and activities under MEPMA.

“The monsoon is approaching. Mosquitoes will increase. Ensure that drainage systems do not overflow. Drinking water must not be contaminated, people should have access to clean drinking water. Prevent the outbreak of infectious diseases. Mosquitoes are a major cause, this must be addressed. Keep the surroundings clean. In some areas, poultry waste is making the environment unhygienic. Poultry waste should not be dumped indiscriminately. Implement a regulated system for its disposal. Bring in a dedicated poultry waste management policy. If needed, explore linking it with the circular economy,” the Chief Minister instructed the officials concerned.

“People’s health should not suffer due to pollution. We must ensure our cities and towns are free from pollution. Air quality in urban areas should improve. There should be no dust pollution. Roads should be regularly cleaned using sweeping machines. Municipalities and corporations should eventually produce their own electricity for street lighting. Consider the policy options and take appropriate action. Also focus on saving electricity. Maintain high standards of quality in Anna Canteens. Even during financial difficulties, we are continuing this programme," the Chief Minister told the officials.
