AP: Cong organizes protest demanding sacking of CEC

Vijayawada, Sep 25 (UNI) The Congress activists, led by APCC Vice-president Kolanukonda Shivaji, staged a protest at the Lenin centre here today, demanding that the Centre should sack Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Addressing the media on the occasion, Kolanukonda Shivaji demanded the removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and called for his arrest and prosecution. He demanded an independent inquiry into all alleged irregularities in the electoral process, immediate stoppage of the SIR process, and restoration of the 13 crore votes alleged to have been deleted.

Shivaji further demanded that the voter data-entry process should not be centralised in a manner that renders the locally functioning Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) ineffective, and that the powers of the Election Commission should be decentralised to ensure greater transparency and accountability.

He also questioned the software-related restrictions allegedly preventing eligible citizens who have attained the age of 18 years from exercising their right to register as voters. He demanded that the Election Commission explain why such software provisions were permitted without making corresponding amendments to the statutory election rules, and at whose direction such decisions were taken.

The APCC Vice-president said that the courts take suo motu cognisance of the allegations relating to “vote theft” and conduct an appropriate judicial inquiry to ascertain the facts and responsibility, if any.

The Congress leader called upon Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and to publicly state their respective positions on the allegations concerning the Election Commission and the electoral process in Andhra Pradesh.

City Congress President Naraharishetty Narasimha Rao, DCC President Borra Kiran, senior leaders Meesala Rajeshwara Rao and V Gurnadham were among the leaders who participated in the protest.
