Seethakka calls for transparency over allegations against CEC Gyanesh Kumar

New Delhi / Hyderabad, Nov 1 (UNI) Telangana Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, Seethakka, today called on the Central Government for transparency over allegations against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and demanded an impartial inquiry.
Speaking to the media in Delhi, she said thousands of Congress leaders and workers from Telangana had reached Ramlila Maidan in Delhi in response to the call given by Rahul Gandhi and the directions of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to participate in the protest to protect democracy and voting rights.
She said the right to vote was a constitutional guarantee and called upon every citizen to safeguard it. Questioning the Centre's stand on the allegations against the CEC, she asked why an impartial inquiry was not being supported if the BJP had no connection with the issue.
Seethakka also criticised the amendment providing protection to Election Commissioners against investigations even after retirement, alleging that it undermined accountability.
Earlier, Seethakka, along with Mulugu District Congress Committee (DCC) president Paidakula Ashok and party workers from Mulugu, paid tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at Shakti Sthal on her death anniversary.
She said the Congress would continue its struggle to protect democracy and the constitutional right to vote.
