Minister Lokesh visits Manipal hospital, inquires health condition of school girl hacked with chainsaw

Vijayawada, Nov 1 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Nara Lokesh on Sunday visited the Manipal hospital in Bangalore to enquire about the condition of the 10th class girl student who was hacked with a chainsaw by a youth on Saturday when she was in a classroom at Raptadu village in Anantapur district.
Lokesh spoke to the doctors regarding the treatment being provided to her. The critically injured girl was initially shifted to a government hospital, where doctors worked for nearly eight hours to stabilise her condition and later shifted her to the Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru. Lokesh said the next 48 hours would be critical and appealed to people across Andhra Pradesh to pray for the girl's recovery.
The Minister emphasised that ensuring the girl's healthcare, continued treatment and subsequent rehabilitation was both the collective responsibility of the government and his personal responsibility. He acknowledged that the incident had highlighted the need to further strengthen existing safety systems and processes.
Lokesh assured that stronger preventive measures would be put in place to ensure that such incidents never recur in Andhra Pradesh. Issuing a stern warning against harassment and indecent behaviour towards women, Lokesh said anyone making inappropriate remarks or behaving indecently towards women in Andhra Pradesh would face severe consequences.
The youth has been arrested but police did not give any details about his questioning or the motive for the attack. Initial reports had indicated that his advances towards the girl had been rejected by her.
