TN Assembly adopts resolution urging Centre to shelve ambiguous "Open-Column Method" during second phase of 2027 Census

Chennai, Sep 8 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Tuesday adopted an unanimous resolution urging the union government to dispense with the ambiguous "Open-Column Method" for the upcoming Phase 2 of Census 2027 and pre-load official state and union lists of Backward Classes (BCs), Most Backward Classes (MBCs), and Denotified Communities (DNCs) directly into the census enumeration portal/application to accurately record data for these communities.
It requested that citizens be given a standardized drop-down menu or list to select their community.
The resolution moved by Minister for Backward Classes Welfare V. Sampathkumar on the last day of the budget session, said BCs, MBCs, OBCs and DNCs be enumerated utilizing verified official lists in the same standardized manner traditionally used for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).

Kozhikode: Reporter TV MD Anto Augustine remanded to 14 days' in liquor storage case

Kozhikode, Sep 17 (UNI) The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Sultan Batheri on Thursday remanded Reporter TV Managing Director Anto Augustine to 14 days' of judicial custody following his arrest by the Kerala Excise Department in connection with a major illegal liquor storage case.
Anto Augustine was sent to 14 days of judicial custody after the Excise Special Investigation Team (SIT) presented him before the court.
