Hundreds of identity cards found burnt in Sakleshpur; police seize documents, launch probe

Sakleshpur (Karnataka), Oct 15 (UNI) The discovery of dozens of burnt voter ID cards, Aadhaar cards and PAN cards belonging to people from multiple districts has triggered a police investigation in Sakleshpur town of Hassan district, with authorities seeking to establish how the documents reached the area and who destroyed them.
The documents, found near Srigandha Hotel, included around 26 voter ID cards and 30 to 40 Aadhaar and PAN cards, according to preliminary information reported on Thursday.
What has complicated the investigation is that the identity documents reportedly carried addresses from several parts of Karnataka, including Hassan, Ramanagara, Vijayanagara, Ballari, Vijayapura, Mysuru, Yadgir and Mandya, besides neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
The discovery raises key questions about the origin of the documents, how they were brought together at one location and whether their destruction was deliberate. Police have yet to establish who possessed the cards before they were burnt or what prompted the incident.
Local residents alerted Sakleshpur town police, who seized the documents and registered a case. The Sakleshpur sub-divisional magistrate has also ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident.
Investigators are expected to examine the recovered material and trace the documents to determine the circumstances surrounding their collection and destruction.
No conclusion has yet been reached about the motive or those responsible. The investigation is continuing.
