ACB nabs Assistant Engineer in Suryapet for accepting Rs 1 lakh bribe

Hyderabad, May 21 (UNI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught an Assistant Executive Engineer (AE) of the Mission Bhagiratha Intra, Suryapet Sub-Division, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
According to an ACB statement issued on Wednesday, the accused officer, Islavath Vinod, demanded the bribe from a complainant in exchange for recording M-Books and preparing bills worth Rs 20 lakh for work executed earlier in Makthal Mandal, Narayanpet district, where Vinod was previously posted.
Although he was transferred to Suryapet on July 19, 2024, the AE reportedly withheld the M-Book related to the complainant’s work and demanded a bribe to process the documentation.
Following his instructions, the complainant met Vinod at a food court on the Kodad Bypass Road. The AE arrived in a car (TS 29 K 2564) with his cousin’s son, Islavath Murthy (37), and his three-year-old son. The complainant entered the vehicle, where the AE accepted the Rs 1 lakh bribe and immediately handed it over to Murthy.
After driving around 100 yards, the AE dropped the complainant off and, suspecting surveillance, also made Murthy get off midway. ACB officials later intercepted and apprehended the AE around 10 km from the spot.
A chemical test confirmed traces of the tainted currency on the AE's left-hand fingers. Murthy, who fled with the bribe money, is yet to be located.
The ACB confirmed that the officer acted improperly and dishonestly to gain undue advantage. For security reasons, the complainant’s identity has been withheld.
The accused officer, Islavath Vinod, is being arrested and produced before the II Additional Special Judge for SPE & ACB Cases, Nampally, Hyderabad.
