Hyderabad Police identify 49 foreign nationals for overstaying, 12 deported

Hyderabad, Oct 3 (UNI) Hyderabad City Police have identified 49 foreign nationals for allegedly overstaying in India or violating immigration regulations during a special joint operation conducted across the city, with 12 of them already deported to their respective countries.
The operation, which began on August 31, was conducted by the Special Branch–Foreigners Monitoring Cell in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), local Law and Order Police and the IT Cell, Hyderabad Police said in a release on Saturday .
The operation was aimed at verifying foreign nationals, ensuring compliance with visa conditions and preventing unlawful activities, besides creating awareness among the public and accommodation providers about their legal responsibilities.
According to the police, the 49 persons identified for overstaying or immigration violations were lodged in designated holding centres.
The deportation process for the remaining persons is underway in coordination with the concerned authorities.
The highest number of cases were identified under Tolichowki Police Station limits at 30, followed by Langar House and Mehdipatnam with six each, Rajendranagar with three, Banjara Hills with two, and one each under Saifabad and Gudimalkapur Police Stations.
During field-level verification, police also detected alleged violations of Indian law, including counterfeit currency-related activities, recovery of narcotic substances, misuse of hospital translator/intermediary services and alleged prostitution-related activities.
In one case, 250 grams of ganja was recovered from a foreign national during verification, police said.
Police also found certain foreign nationals who had entered India on student visas and allegedly continued working as translators or intermediaries for foreign patients in hospitals after their visas expired. They were allegedly collecting translation charges and, in some cases, commissions of around 15 per cent of hospital bills.
In another case, a foreign national allegedly found addicted to drugs was found in possession of Alprazolam tablets mixed with cough syrup for consumption, police said. Three South Sudanese nationals in Rajendranagar, who had allegedly overstayed after entering India on student visas, also tested positive for cannabis during drug screening.
Hyderabad Police clarified that foreign nationals possessing valid passports, visas and other required documents are welcome to stay in India, subject to compliance with visa conditions and applicable laws.
The police advised house owners, landlords, hotels, guest houses, service apartment operators and other accommodation providers to verify the passports and visas of foreign nationals, comply with prescribed reporting requirements, including submission of Form III/C, and maintain relevant records.
The Foreigners Monitoring Cell, Special Branch, Hyderabad City Police, in coordination with the FRRO and local police units, will continue verification and enforcement measures to ensure compliance with immigration regulations and prevent illegal stay and associated unlawful activities, the police added.
