Vizag Collector reviews arrangements for second GVMC general elections

Visakhapatnam, Oct 3 (UNI) Visakhapatnam District Collector A Abhishiktha Kishore on Saturday directed officials to make comprehensive arrangements for the smooth conduct of the second general elections to the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).
At a meeting, the Collector reviewed arrangements related to electoral rolls, polling stations, deployment of polling personnel, election material, distribution centres, strong rooms, counting centres and election expenditure.
He directed officials to prepare a detailed plan for the election process and ensure basic facilities at every polling station.
He also stressed the need to review the deployment of security forces before commencement of the polling process.
The Collector instructed officials to provide training to polling personnel on their duties and responsibilities.
He said election staff could be drawn from Visakhapatnam and rural areas of Anakapalle district for the poll process.
GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said the corporation has 120 wards and 1,990 polling stations covering 18,37,901 voters, including 9,06,866 men, 9,30,916 women and 119 voters from other categories.
He said polling officers and staff would be appointed for each polling station, with an additional 20 per cent personnel kept in reserve. A total of 14,328 polling personnel would be deployed for election duties.
Garg briefed officials on ward-wise voter strength, polling stations, publication of electoral rolls, election personnel, training programmes, distribution centres, strong rooms and counting centres.
He said proposals had been submitted for procuring 4,800 ballot boxes and that zone-wise election material distribution centres were being identified.
Andhra University Engineering College has been identified as the venue for receiving and storing election material after polling and for counting of votes, he said.
District Revenue Officer M Visweswara Naidu, Deputy Collector Govindu, Additional Commissioners Ramanamurthy, Varma, Nallanayya and Sathyaveni, Estate Officer Dayanidhi, CCP Prabhakar, zonal commissioners, ACPs, election cell officials and representatives of various departments attended the meeting.
