Depression: Officials put on high alert, holiday declared for schools in AP

Vijayawada, Sep 22 (UNI) With the depression centered over the west-central Bay of Bengal is rapidly moving towards North Andhra Pradesh and expected to intensify into a deep depression, a red alert has been issued for Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, and Vizianagaram districts for the next 24 hours.
On Tuesday, the Meteorological Department said the system has been moving at a speed of 17 kmph over the past six hours and is expected to intensify into a deep depression within the next 12 hours.
Currently, it is centered 290 km east of Visakhapatnam and 230 km from Kalingapatnam. It is likely to make landfall between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur either tomorrow (Wednesday) night or in the early hours of the day after. Under its influence, heavy rains are likely to occur along the North Andhra coast.
