Breakfast for 27 lakh students every day, says T'gana DyCM

Suryapet, Oct 6 (UNI) Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka today said the state’s initiative to provide hot breakfast to 27 lakh government-school students every day was a unique programme focused on improving children’s nutrition and education.
Bhatti, along with Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, laid the foundation stone for a Rs 9.6-crore Centralised Community Kitchen at Munagala in Kodad constituency. The modern kitchen will provide breakfast to nearly 60,000 students in 1,020 schools.
He said breakfast was being served six days a week, with milk on three days and ragi porridge on the other three. He described welfare spending on students, farmers, women and the poor as an investment in human resources and the state’s GSDP, rather than freebies.
Bhatti also criticised the BRS, saying it had a “past but no future” and questioned what the party proposed to do if it returned to power. He cited programmes including Indiramma Houses, free electricity, fine rice, fee reimbursement and interest-free loans for women.
He announced that the Indiramma Family Insurance scheme would be launched on November 19, providing Rs 5 lakh to a family in case of the accidental death of its head.
Bhatti said Young India Integrated Residential Schools, costing Rs 200 crore each, were being established in every Assembly constituency with English-medium education, sports and modern facilities for students from SC, ST, BC, Minority and OC communities.
