AP: GVMC gears up for local body elections in 120 wards

Visakhapatnam, Sep 26 (UNI) Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner and Additional Election Authority Ketan Garg on Saturday directed officials to make advance arrangements and work in coordination to ensure the smooth and transparent conduct of the forthcoming local body elections in all 120 wards under GVMC limits.
During a teleconference with departmental officials and Zonal Commissioners, Garg reviewed election preparedness and issued instructions.
A day-long training programme on election management was subsequently conducted for Assistant Election Authorities, Returning Officers and other staff here.
The training covered polling station identification, scrutiny of voter lists, preparation of photo electoral rolls, provision of basic amenities and the responsibilities of election officials.
Garg stressed the need to verify voter details and electoral rolls carefully and ensure drinking water, electricity, lighting, toilets and ramps for persons with disabilities at all polling stations.
He directed officials to inspect polling stations and rectify deficiencies promptly.
He instructed Zonal Commissioners to monitor preparations in their respective jurisdictions in accordance with State Election Commission guidelines.
Garg said he would personally supervise the arrangements and called for close coordination among all departments to prevent errors or lapses.
