Gandhi’s ideals guiding light for world: T’gana DY CM Bhatti Vikramarka

Hyderabad, Oct 2 (UNI) Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of non-violence, Satyagraha, equality and social justice continued to serve as a guiding light for the world.
He was speaking at the grand celebrations of Gandhi’s 157th birth anniversary organised by the Gandhi Global Family and TPCC at LB Stadium in Hyderabad. TPCC President and MLC B. Mahesh Kumar Goud also participated in the programme.
Bhatti Vikramarka called for building a society free from inequality, discrimination and social humiliation. He urged people to reject the ideology of Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Gandhi, and opposed attempts to distort the Mahatma’s role in the freedom struggle.
He said the Telangana government was pursuing people-centric governance inspired by Gandhi’s ideals. The proposed Young India Integrated Residential Schools, where students from SC, ST, BC, minority and OC communities would study together without discrimination, were part of this vision, he said.
The government planned to establish more than 100 such schools with modern infrastructure, he added, saying that bringing children from different social backgrounds together would promote equality and social harmony.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahesh Kumar Goud said Gandhi Jayanti was a celebration for the entire world and an inspiration for those who cherished peace. He said Gandhi’s path was the nation’s ultimate safeguard and that democracy could be strengthened by following his ideals of truth, non-violence, peace and tolerance.
The leaders inaugurated the celebrations by lighting a ceremonial lamp and paid floral tributes to Gandhi’s portrait. They also recalled his contribution to India’s freedom struggle and called upon people to pass on Gandhian values to future generations.
Earlier, Bhatti Vikramarka and Mahesh Kumar Goud visited various stalls at LB Stadium and interacted with organisers about the programmes and exhibitions.
Bhatti Vikramarka later attended Gandhi Jayanti celebrations at Gandhi Bhavan in Nampally and paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Mohammed Azharuddin, Gaddam Vivek Venkataswamy and other Congress leaders participated in the programmes.
