World Rural Development Day poster released by CIRDAP, NIRDPR & REEDS in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, June 18 (UNI) The Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), and the
Rural Economic and Educational Development Society (REEDS) jointly released the World Rural Development Day (WRDD) poster at a special event held on Wednesday at the NIRDPR campus
here.
In his Chief Guest address, Prof Anil K Gupta, emphasised the growing disparities and income inequalities under the current development framework.
He proposed a shift toward an enterprise development model in rural areas, advocating for the
kind of risk capital support that has driven the success of urban start-ups in the IT sector.

Prof Gupta expressed hope that WRDD celebrations would encourage grassroots innovations and support the “grassroots to global” (G2G) model.
Dr G Narendra Kumar, Director General of NIRDPR, pointed out that global attention to rural development has declined since the 1980s. He stated that observing WRDD can help rejuvenate
this focus by encouraging the exchange of innovative grassroots practices, such as India’s Localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs) initiative.
Dr P Chandra Shekara, Director General of CIRDAP, announced a special outreach program initiated by REEDS, supported by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, where political leaders and state officials will engage directly with rural communities on July 6, 2025—the day of WRDD. This initiative aims to share and collect feedback on rural development policies and programs.
Dr Shekara also called upon all CIRDAP member countries to mark the occasion with meaningful local initiatives.
Dr Ravi Reddy, Honorary Secretary of REEDS, highlighted the collaborative programs lined up with the Andhra Pradesh government as part of the WRDD celebrations, reinforcing the importance of participatory rural policy-making.
The event witnessed participation from representatives of 11 CIRDAP Member Countries (CMCs), including Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Vietnam, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, Fiji, Philippines, Bangladesh, and India—underscoring the growing international cooperation in addressing rural development challenges and promoting inclusive growth.
