Telangana CM Revanth Reddy slams BRS rule, highlights farmers’ welfare at Rythu Nestham programme

Hyderabad, June 24 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy challenged former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) to a debate in the Legislative Assembly on key issues, including the sharing of Godavari River water.
Revanth said that if KCR was sincere, he should write to the Speaker to convene a special session, and assured that Minister Sridhar Babu would take responsibility for facilitating the discussion.
Addressing a large gathering at the Rythu Nestham programme held near the Rajiv Gandhi statue opposite the Secretariat on Tuesday evening, Revanth Reddy announced the successful completion of the Rythu Bharosa programme. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to farmers' welfare, stating that ₹9,000 crore had been deposited into the accounts of farmers within just nine days—fulfilling a key promise made by the Congress party.
Recalling the legacy of YSR, the Chief Minister said that the late leader provided free electricity and transformed agriculture into a festival rather than a burden.
Drawing inspiration from YSR, Revanth Reddy said he had come to power with the blessings of farmers and would work relentlessly to serve them. He emphasised that farmers are the government’s first priority, followed by women and youth.
He also highlighted that the Congress government had waived off farm loans, benefiting over 25 lakh farmers, contrasting this with the previous regime’s alleged neglect of the agricultural sector.
Launching a sharp critique of the previous BRS government led by K Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister accused it of massive corruption, debt mismanagement, and failure to fulfill promises. He alleged that the previous Chief Minister discouraged paddy cultivation while the Congress government incentivised it by offering timely bonuses. Revanth Reddy questioned how KCR, KTR, and Harish Rao acquired farmhouses in Moinabad, Janwada, and Gajwel, respectively, while the state sank into debt exceeding Rs 8 lakh crore. He blamed the BRS leadership for turning Telangana, once financially strong, into a bankrupt state.
The Chief Minister said that, unlike the BRS government, which he claimed did not complete a single irrigation project initiated during Congress rule, his administration had taken bold steps in the interest of the people.
He mentioned that 60,000 government jobs had been filled in just 18 months, a feat the BRS could not achieve in ten years. He accused the previous government of looting public funds through inflated irrigation project costs like Kaleshwaram, which he termed “Kaleshwaram,” and said lakhs of crores vanished into the Godavari.
Revanth Reddy outlined various welfare measures undertaken by his government. He said that the aim was to make one crore women millionaires through support for solar power generation and entrepreneurship. Interest-free loans worth Rs 21,000 crore had been extended to women’s self-help groups. Land was allotted for 150 shops in Shilparamam, 1,000 buses were being procured for women to rent out to RTC, and 8,000 IKP centres had been placed under women’s management.
He also noted that the supply of midday meals in schools was now the responsibility of self-help groups. Additionally, the government was establishing Amma Adarsh schools in villages to strengthen education in rural areas.
He appealed to the public to assess and compare the ten years of BRS rule with the 18 months of Congress governance. session, and Minister Sridhar Babu would ensure the discussion takes place.
The Chief Minister reiterated that his government is committed to making agriculture a celebration and farmers the centre of governance.
