Bengaluru, Mar 11 (UNI) Union Minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing it of engaging in divisive politics and plundering Bengaluru under the guise of development.
Attacking the government with regards to the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill, Kumaraswamy alleged that the Congress has followed a policy of "divide and rule" for 75 years. "Then, they divided an undivided India. Now, they are dividing Bengaluru," he claimed.
He further accused the ruling party of attempting to erase the legacy of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, the founder of Bengaluru, asserting that the concept of "Greater Bengaluru" was merely a facade to facilitate largescale corruption. "Congress’s real agenda is looting. This is not decentralization of power or development—this is decentralization of loot," he charged.
Drawing a historical parallel, Kumaraswamy likened the alleged misgovernance of the Congress to the plundering of India by medieval invaders. "Looters like Mahmud of Ghazni and Muhammad Ghori plundered India’s wealth. Now, Bengaluru has its own Ghazni and Ghori, searching for seven new ways to loot the city," he remarked.
The former CM's remarks come amid an ongoing debate over the restructuring of Bengaluru’s governance, with the state government proposing administrative changes purportedly aimed at improving urban management. However, opposition leaders, including Kumaraswamy, have accused the Congress of using the move as a pretext for corruption.
