Centralized software Blood Bank Traceability App to ensure safe blood

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 15 (UNI) A centralized software 'Blood Bank Traceability App' is being set up to provide real-time information on the availability of safe and suitable blood units across Kerala.
"A portal is also being prepared as part of this project to help the public know the exact availability of blood. The government is trying to make this portal available to the public by the end of this year," Health Minister Veena George has said.
The minister also clarified that once this becomes a reality, information on blood banks will be available from anywhere.
To ensure the availability of blood, blood storage units or blood banks have been set up in all hospitals, from community health centers to maternity hospitals.
The project is being implemented by K-DISC, Kerala State AIDS Control Society, Blood Transfusion Council and eHealth under the leadership of the Health Department. It also aims to achieve the important goal of 100 percent voluntary blood donation in the coming years.
A state-of-the-art blood bag traceability digital system has been implemented that can track the blood from collection to donation, she said.
'Kerala Rare Blood Donor Registry' has also been launched for rare blood. In addition, the blood bank traceability application is being developed.
The Blood Bank Traceability Application is a centralized software platform that connects all blood banks. Efforts have been made to integrate private blood banks as well as government blood banks into this software.
This will help in making the blood available in Kerala visible on a single platform and ensuring the same level of safety and care for all.
The Blood Bank Traceability Application project will be launched on a pilot basis at the Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital from this month. Efforts are being made to make the
project a reality across Kerala this year itself.
