Dengue prevention in Kerala needs to begin within 100 metres: Envu India report

Kochi, Oct 7 (UNI) Dengue prevention in Kerala needs to shift from a seasonal, monsoon-centric exercise to a year-round building-level routine, with mosquito breeding risks often located within about 100 metres of where people live and work, according to a new Envu India report.
Kerala recorded 670 dengue cases during January and February 2026, according to data cited in the report titled The Hundred Metre Disease. The early-year cases highlight the need for preventive measures beyond the conventional monsoon period, it said.
The report noted that India recorded 6,927 dengue cases during January and February 2026, with about 72 per cent of them reported from southern states and union Territories. Southern peninsular India also receives significant rainfall during the north-east monsoon between October and December, making year-round vigilance necessary.
