Hyd: ICFAI, Karkinos Healthcare organise free cancer screening camp in Gopularam

Hyderabad, Sep 26 (UNI) More than 220 villagers from five villages adopted by ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) availed themselves of free medical consultations, health assessments and cancer screening services at a two-day community health camp which began at Gopularam near the ICFAI campus on Saturday.
The camp was organised by the Centre for Women Development (CWD) of ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, Hyderabad, in collaboration with Karkinos Healthcare to promote cancer awareness, early detection and preventive healthcare in rural communities.
The beneficiaries included residents of Gopularam, Maharajpet, Pilligudla, Proddutoor and Donthanpally, along with people from neighbouring settlements and thandas.
The camp was conducted free of cost, with the Indian Cancer Society, Bengaluru, serving as the primary funding partner and Karkinos Healthcare providing clinical expertise and screening support.
The programme was inaugurated by ICFAI Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Vinay Kumar and Registrar Prof. S. Vijayalakshmi in the presence of a medical team led by Dr. Narayana Murthy Poduri, Senior Consultant Radiation Oncologist at Reliance-Karkinos Healthcare and former Director of Tata Cancer Centre, Tirupati.
Speaking on the occasion, Vinay Kumar said the initiative reflected ICFAI's commitment to social responsibility, rural development and community outreach through UBA.
The participation of villagers highlighted the importance of taking preventive healthcare services closer to rural communities, he added.
Dr. Narayana Murthy Poduri said the collaboration aimed to improve access to affordable cancer care, particularly for women, by promoting awareness, early detection and timely medical support.
Prof. Vijayalakshmi said the Centre for Women Development continued to promote women's empowerment, health awareness and community outreach while encouraging students to participate in socially relevant initiatives.
The camp focuses on cancer awareness, preventive healthcare, medical consultations and referral support for people requiring further evaluation or treatment.
The programme was attended by sarpanches of the adopted villages, ICFAI students and staff members.
The camp will continue on September 27 to provide services to more residents of surrounding villages and thandas.
